HYPOTONIC CEREBRAL PALSY – a disorder of the brain

Hypotonic Cerebral Palsy or Cerebral palsy is a very rare form of a disorder of the brain. It is a disorder involving the impairment of body movement and low muscle tone which is called hypotonic. Cerebral palsy sometimes affects a person’s intellectual ability to move and maintain balance and posture.

A person with this kind of disorder will seem floppy and even unbalanced when walking. Also, they will have difficulty with their posture when standing or sitting up. Hypotonic cerebral palsy is not a disease but a disorder caused in the early stages of birth and developed during pregnancies. There is no cure for hypotonic cerebral palsy.

Several reasons for cerebral palsy are caused by a head injury or asphyxiation, infections during pregnancies, jaundice, or lack of oxygen to the brain. There are two kinds of hypotonic cerebral palsy: 1) acquired hypotonic cerebral palsy and 2) congenital hypotonic cerebral palsy.

Acquired hypotonic cerebral palsy occurs when the brain has been damaged after the first months of a baby being born. Damages such as brain injury, bacterial meningitis, viral encephalitis, and even head injury are some causes of acquired hypotonic cerebral palsy. On the other hand, congenital hypotonic cerebral palsy occurs before or near birth damaging the motor central of the brain causing to lose the control of movement.

There are other factors which generally can affect hypotonic cerebral palsy. These factors include nervous system defects and even maternal hyperthyroidism. Although, it does not get worse through time, new symptoms can appear and even become worse. In general, this illness should be given utmost attention other than ignoring the symptoms. Hypotonic cerebral palsy must me be treated right away to lessen the damage.
